On July 20, The Surat Initiative will be hosting the Sikh Leadership Conference in Manhattan, New York. In this event, young Sikhs will gather to explore ideas on leadership and personal development from a Gurmat perspective. The conference will feature interactive workshops and guest speakers, and is geared towards individuals that want to create positive change, from students who have attended retreats and camps for years to newcomers who are passionate about community engagement.
Registration for this year's Sikh Leadership Conference filled in less than 24 hours. If you would like to join our program, click here to sign up for the waiting list!
This June, The Surat Initiative hosted "84 for '84," an 84-mile group relay run commemorating the 30-year anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. The event sought to provide the community an opportunity to come together and engage actively while reflecting on the events of 1984. We appreciate the support of those who joined us.
Join us in remembering the 30-year anniversary since the June and November violence against Sikhs in India. Every day, for the year 2014, we will be posting one historical item to document and commemorate 1984. These posts will serve to provide a historical context to the violence. Follow the project here.
